Your twenty-four months,
with actual dates on them

Bulgaria's digital nomad permit runs a year and renews once. That ceiling is in the statute, so it is worth knowing the date it lands on before you book a flight — not in month twenty-three.

Question 1

When would you arrive?

The year you apply in decides which income threshold applies to you — it is tied to the previous calendar year's minimum wage.

Question 2

What did you gross last calendar year?

Gross, before tax and before anything was deducted — that is what the statute counts. Whole calendar year, not the last twelve months.

Question 3

Where does that money come from?

Plain description is enough. Which legal category you fall into is ours to work out.

Nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere.

How this is calculated

Art. 24c(1) of the Foreigners Act requires average annual income of not less than fifty minimum monthly wages under Bulgarian legislation for the previous calendar year, counted on the gross sum received. Art. 24c(2) gives the permit one year, extendable once. The minimum wage was BGN 1,077 from 1 January 2025 and BGN 1,213 from 1 January 2026, converted at the fixed rate of 1.95583.

Because the threshold is a formula rather than a figure, it is recalculated every January and years beyond the published minimum wage are shown as unconfirmed rather than guessed. Serious firms also read the sentence differently — some apply the current year's minimum wage, which gives a higher number — so where you sit between the two readings, this tool tells you rather than hiding it.

The month-fifteen decision point is ours, not the law's: it is the latest we would want a conversion started so the new basis is running before the nomad permit lapses. Bulgarian law as at August 2026; general information, not advice on your situation.
